Whale Watch!!

This past Sunday Lissette and I paddled our kayak toward a group of paddle boarders and kayakers we could see a mile out or more out to sea hoping to catch a sighting of a whale or other sea-life on our journey. Little did we know that where we decided to stop and take a rest a baby Humpback whale would surface directly in front of us. I was taking a panoramic video of the surrounding mountains when a loud “poof” resonated so loud it actually startled us both-see the video! We could also see the much larger mother which was directly below nudging the baby to the surface. We have always been respectful of whales and the other beautiful sea-life we are surrounded by but in this case it was purely coincidental that we were blessed to be so close to a mother and calf. Whale sightings have been down this year at least for shoreline viewing but this day we were able to get an up close view! After I took this video, the calf surfaced and then submerged itself directly in front of another kayak broadsides. It’s wake caused...

Whales are here again!!

Breaching whales, big waves, plenty of rain and rainbows have characterized this winter!  Last year’s season was highlighted by fewer whale sightings but this year is completely different.  There are few mornings where Lissette and I on our morning runs do not see whales everywhere on the near and far away, ocean horizon.  Check out the photo of a whale breach with the Winona catamaran in the background on their nightly sunset cruise.  My friend Taylor took this great photo, I surfed that night with Taylor’s three sons and remember the whales in close just behind us as we surfed till past dark-magical!  My friend Dillan took the double rainbow photo at our beach club after a hard rain on the same morning. The sights and sounds around our island never cease to amaze us….especially in the winter and spring!!  Let us find your piece of paradise so that you can share the same memories anytime!!

Winter has arrived on the Big Island!!

Snow fell on Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa over the last few nights signaling the whales are soon to arrive from their seasonal journey from Alaska. Big waves are heading this way this afternoon-another sign that winter has arrived on the Big Island!  Surf or ski?  All possible this time of year if you dare to travel to 14,000’ and avoid the exposed rocks and un groomed conditions.  Surfing conditions can be the same relative to exposed rocks, coral and un groomed conditions but that’s the fun of it-for sure!  Come join us for great weather and the best of all that the Big Island has to offer this winter and possibly stay a while to preview our many resort properties for a longer visit:)  Call me to discuss!!
